1. When was this photo taken?
2. Where was this photo taken?
my back yard
3. Who took this photo?
4. What are we looking at here?
I suspect this was taken during the honeymoon phase with a new toy. I remember hastily shooting off a few rolls to test the mettle of a medium format camera that would do the thinking for me.
This is a once glamorous leather sofa, found on the street and relocated to a spot under a pepper tree. It still lives there, a bit worse for wear, and still capitulates at least once a year to the post-rain exuberance of plumbago.
It felt irresponsible - almost reckless - to point and shoot 120 film after so many years of meticulous metering and careful composition. Probably managed to justify it under the pretense that I needed a use for the already expired film I'd been hoarding.
5. How does this old photo make you feel?
Glad I explored the pitfalls of autopilot before taking my new toy on a job...
Also, chagrined that - even then - I don't prune as often as I really should.
6. Is this what you expected to see?
Couldn't have guessed what would be on this roll, but I am shocked to note how long that sofa has survived under a tree.
7. What kind of memories does this photo bring back?
I was excited by the new camera. Bought it used on Craigslist, completely on impulse. Aside from getting a few more exposures out of 120 film it never really did much for me.
8. How do you think others will respond to this photo?
Not sure it immediately reads as a sofa covered with dead leaves and overgrowth... but for the record, it was a lot more comfortable than it looks.
