When was this photo taken?
I believe it was spring 1988
Where was this photo taken?
Yankee Stadium in New York
Who took this photo?
Most likely the girls' dad
What are we looking at here?
When our three daughters were between the ages of 4 and 11, as they are here, we lived in upstate New York and went to the city to visit my parents who lived on Long Island. It was If it was baseball season the girls always got to go to Yankee Stadium and it's with their dad that they learned to score the game, identify teams and enjoy the sounds and excitement of the ball park.
How does this old photo make you feel?
Looking at this photo today during the 2020 pandemic I am reminded how much of city life and the joy of visiting the city is wrapped up in the excitement of being in crowds. Will we ever know this feeling again?
Is this what you expected to see?
I didn't have any idea what would be on this roll of film. The quality doesn't surprise me because this roll sat around for over 30 years waiting to be developed. A reminder of how expensive it was to use film and have prints developed and how digital photography has changed all that.
What kind of memories does this photo bring back?
The girls loved these outings to baseball games. I didn't always go and suspect that I wasn't there that day. Greg, the girls' dad, loved baseball and made sure the girls loved it, too. It was their thing and when opening day came where we lived in upstate NY I heard that he would pick them up at school and sign them out for dental appointments, then drive up to the stadium for the opening day game. It was their "secret" annual tradition.
How do you think others will respond to this photo?
I expect it will resonate with many family experiences others have also had.
