1. When was this photo taken?
2. Where was this photo taken?
Upstate New York at a Dude Ranch
3. Who took this photo?
4. What are we looking at here?
My daughter Dana, then a toddler, on a horse at a family reunion at a dude ranch in upstate New York.
5. How does this old photo make you feel?
I am surprised at how much my daughter, even at this young age, displayed the personality that we see in her now as a 27-year-old. She is someone who knows her own mind and is always ready to participate in new experiences. At the time I took the photo, this trait seemed like stubbornness and was a challenge to me as a new mom. Seeing the image makes me feel the pointed and poignant passage of time. It makes me wish I could re-experience that period in my life.
6. Is this what you expected to see?
No, I had forgotten about these images and the details of this extended family reunion.
7. Does this photo bring back any memories?
Yes. It brings back the time in my life when parenting was new, as well as restore the memories of a joyous time with members of my family.
8. How do you think others will respond to this photo?
I think some people will be struck by the poise of this confident little girl by herself on a big horse. And perhaps it will evoke similar feelings of poignancy among others whose children are now young adults, but whose childhood seems like just a moment ago.
