2. Where was this photo taken?
3. Who took this photo?
4. What are we looking at here?
A close friend and business partner-photographer Alexandra Boulat.
5. How does this old photo make you feel?
This image was incredibly bittersweet. Taken at the wedding of friends Santiago and Emma was a day of happiness. But Alex passed away a number of years ago. She was an important part of my life. We photographed war together and spent time together building a business. She was a unique person and someone that I miss often. While I was happy to see a new image of her-especially of her smiling-it was difficult not to be melancholic as well.
6. Is this what you expected to see?
This was a very shocking image to see. I had no idea there were more images of Alex out there and i was not expecting it.
7. Does this photo bring back any memories?
Too many memories to count. Alex and I were in many parts of the world together photographing both the happy and sad. We learned to be war photographers together and the memories will always be part of me.
8. How do you think others will respond to this photo?
I hope the experience I had will remind people of the power of the image. Seeing Alex again-in such a surprising way-reminded me of all that we had shared. It was the photograph that started it all.
