1. When was this photo taken?
2. Where was this photo taken?
Somewhere off I 20 in Texas
3. Who took this photo?
Jason Thomas Fritz
4. What are we looking at here?
I was traveling on a long distance bus from Phoenix to Dallas, when it broke down at 4am in the middle of nowhere. We had to wait for another bus to take us to the nearest town, a tiny two-stop light town somewhere off of Interstate 20. This was the view of the gas station as the sun was rising.
5. How does this old photo make you feel?
I was living in a very punk, DIY way of life back. Traveling a lot of Greyhound or freight train hopping. I miss the adventure—the carefree life.
6. Is this what you expected to see?
I have a bag of undeveloped film from that period. I always had my Nikon FM2 with me. I never developed a lot of the rolls.
7. Does this photo bring back any memories?
It was a wild ride before the bus broke down. The drunk woman in front of me started fighting with her boyfriend. She was punching him so much he started to bleed. It was the days before cell phones. My friend ended up waiting 6 hours for me at the station.
8. How do you think others will respond to this photo?
This feels like more like a personal diary than something that would interest others. It’s the type of one-stoplight town in rural America everyone has forgotten about.
