Julianne V. Graig
1. When was this photo taken?
2. Where was this photo taken?
3. Who took this photo?
I did. Julianne Craig.
4. What are we looking at here?
A rock formation on the side of the road. I took the photo from inside the car. You can see where the sun glints off the glass near the bottom of the photo.
5. How does this old photo make you feel?
It makes me realize that I have long had and still have a fascination with and appreciation for the geology of place.
6. Is this what you expected to see?
I had no expectation. I knew it had been at least 12 years since I'd used a film camera. I used to take two cameras with me on trips, one for color and one for black and white. I couldn't remember the last occasion when I took photos with film.
7. Does this photo bring back any memories?
I remember trying to take the whole landscape in, wanting to take home proof that I had been there. It was only my second trip out west and, having spent my whole life in South Florida, the different elevations and textures and colors had my attention.
8. How do you think others will respond to this photo?
Many people will probably find the rock formation common place. I hope that some will notice that, though the rock seems still and immobile, it has experienced both violent upheaval and gentle, persistent erosion by water and wind.
