1. When was this photo taken?
2. Where was this photo taken?
Backstage @ Theatre Central in Knoxville, TN
3. Who took this photo?
4. What are we looking at here?
This is a backstage candid of Robby Griffith as Alfred Chamberlain, during a local production of Jules Pfeiffer's "Little Murders."
5. How does this old photo make you feel?
A minor shock at first to see an "injured" friend, and then to remember the broader circumstances. Also some sadness, as Robby passed away a few years ago, with some gratitude that this lost picture of him has been recovered.
6. Is this what you expected to see?
Not at all. I thought it would be random garden documentation shots, which I always did far too much of.
7. Does this photo bring back any memories?
We opened the week after 9-11, and we had to do some real soul searching to decide if we were going to cancel the show. "Little Murders" is a black farce about senseless violence, among other things, which ends with the characters sniper-shooting random strangers on the street for entertainment. In the end, we did open, and rightly so. It gave the show a strange, unique gravitas, to say the least.
8. How do you think others will respond to this photo?
Probably some similar shock at the apparent injury. Hopefully some recognition if they read the back-story: 9-11 was a gut punch that left us all wondering how to respond, and what "normal" was going to be from then on.
